8:30 am - Transfer to Penticton

9:15 am - Green Mountain Ride begins

9:30 - Casual Ride begins

11 am - Tasting and snack at Nighthawk (Casual group only)

1 pm - Lunch and Tasting at Covert Farms

2 pm - Ride to Medici’s/Firehall

2:45 pm - Gelato/Beer Stop

3:30 pm - Shuttle to Penticton

4 pm - Transfer from Penticton to Osoyoos and Check In

6 pm - Shuttle to Backyard Farm for Dinner

We head to the South Okanagan for the rest of your Giro Adventure. We’ll meet you in Penticton where we’ll park your vehicles for the day while we ride.

Today we have an iconic Okanagan ride, with two options: the classic climb up Green Mountain for those wanting a challenge and the rolling ride from Twin Lakes for those wanting a more relaxed ride. The Green Mountain group will ascend over 800 meters through 20 kilometers to the Apex turn off, then sweep down the backside for a breath taking descent to Highway 3A. There we have another climb to a rest stop at Yellow Lake. Both groups will descend down through the rolling Okanagan Highlands, riding through Twin Lakes to our first stop, Nighthawk Vineyards for a tasting (casual group only). Then, we continue on a spectacular ride through rolling ranchlands to our lunch stop, Covert Farms. We finish with a long, sweeping descent through the orchards and vineyards of Oliver.

Dinner tonight is with our good friend, Chef Chris Van Hooydonk at the Chef’s Table at Backyard Farms. We’ve arranged a private 5 course dinner you’ll never forget. Your hosts, Gord and Bill, will join you for this celebration of Okanagan cuisine.

nighthawk vineyards

Our vineyard story began as a celebration of family and friendship, inspired by the natural beauty of this magical valley in Okanagan Falls.  We share the land with the local wildlife, including the Nighthawks that return each spring to nest during the growing season.  The unique micro climate of Okanagan Falls provides a rare habitat perfectly suited to these majestic birds, and of course some of the valley’s finest grape growing conditions…coincidence or not?

Some laughed when George Covert bought this desert-like piece of land back in 1959 – but he, his son, and eventually grandson have grown Covert Farms into a cornerstone in organic farming. The family name is well known across numerous provinces with restaurateurs and grocers alike. 

We’ll be having a true Farm-to-Table lunch at Covert Farms plus a chance to try wines from the Family Estate.
