White Lake & Black Sage

Sunday, Sept 23

This ride links together the best of the South Okanagan. It’s a ride of contrasts, starting in the rolling ranchlands around White and Green Lake in the high Okanagan, then descending through the Golden Mile to Oliver where we’ll ride for a way on the Bike/Hike trail that follows the channel south. At Road 9, we climb to Ryegrass Road and connect with Black Sage Road, riding through the vineyards and orchards of these fabled wine producing regions. Along the way, we’ll stop for gelato and to visit some of the Okanagan’s favourite wineries.

silver sage winery (Lunch Stop)

Silver Sage founders Anna and Victor Manola emigrated to the Okanagan from Romania 32 years ago. Winemaking comes naturally to the Manola family, as they have four generations of winemaking experience behind them. Victor shared his father’s experience in grape growing, as back home he managed 25 hectares of vineyard. Anna’s father managed a 600-hectare vineyard and was its winemaker. From him, Anna learned the secrets of making a unique fruit wine that Silver Sage now shares with you.

We’ll meet you here with a gourmet picnic lunch which we’ll enjoy on the grounds.

Black Hills Estate Winery

Black Hills Estate Winery vineyards have some of the most favourable grape growing conditions in the country, resulting in exceptional terroir. Located on the famed Black Sage Road, 13 kilometres north of Osoyoos, BC and 10 kilometres south of Oliver, BC. This places Black Hills Estate in the Okanagan Valley appellation, centered in the middle of Canada’s only official desert. The resulting microclimate leaves us with one of hottest, driest and sunniest sites in the country. Black Hills careful irrigation techniques and thoughtfully focused viticulture practices, provide ideal growing conditions for the Bordeaux and Rhone varietals we nurture. We are so terroir-centric that our winegrower lives right in the middle of our vineyard. He quite literally eats, sleeps and breathes our grapes!

Burrowing Owl

We’ll end our ride at Burrowing Owl Winery. Balance is a time-honored goal in the making of premium wines and working toward balance is a way of life at Burrowing Owl Estate Winery. Founder Jim Wyse is committed to balance, well beyond that of the fine, world-class wines being produced. A kind of Hippocratic oath (“to do no harm”) underlies the creative viticultural and enological practices at Burrowing Owl.
