Myra Canyon & East Kelowna

thursday, sept 5

(Note - Had to change because of poor KVR trail conditions between Ruth and Glenfir)

Today, we begin with a ride on the famous Myra Trestles. For those of you with road bikes or e-bikes (e-bikes are not allowed within the park boundaries) we will supply you with a bike from our rental fleet. We’ll take a 12 km historic tour of the trestles, telling the story of the construction along the way. At Ruth, we’ll stop for lunch and load up the bikes for a short shuttle ride back to the pavement. Then we’ll unload your road bikes and e-bikes for a wonderful cruise through the orchards and farms of East Kelowna, with a few of our favourite stops thrown in. We wrap up with a tasting at Barn Owl Brewing in the historic Okanagan Mission. Dinner tonight is at 19 Okanagan Restaurant in West Kelowna.

myra canyon trestles

We start our ride today on the 18 trestles and 2 tunnels in Myra Canyon. We’ll tell you the fascinating story of the making of the railway and share many exclusive Giro points of interest.

worker’s camp site

We’ll stop at the site of Morrisey Camp #2, by Ruth Station. This truly is a hidden gem - as you need to know exactly the right trail to take. Giro has worked with local historians to research the story of this camp and can share what life would have been like for workers on the Kettle Valley Railroad over a hundred years ago.

This will also be our Lunch spot. The Giro Support team will meet us with a catered lunch at Ruth Station.

Okanagan Lavender Farm

We are a small, family-run farm and business, and we work with a team of local staff to provide an exceptional garden and retail experience. We grow top quality herbs and produce natural products in a way that is good for the body, the earth and the soul.

Barn Owl Brewing

A doctor, a teacher, and a church worker walked into a barn … and the rest is history. An idea that has been brewing for years has finally completed fermentation. The three of us with rather diverse backgrounds do share a love of craft beer and bringing people together…

Tantalus Winery

Tantalus Vineyards was founded on the belief that exceptional wines made from a single vineyard of outstanding pedigree would capture the imagination and palates of those seeking authenticity
and a sense of place.
