Green Mountain & White Lake

Wednesday, June 26

Today, we’re riding what may be the most iconic road ride of the Okanagan. For those wanting a longer ride, we’ll climb from Penticton through the pine forests of Green Mountain to the Apex Alpine turn off. Then we ride down the back side of the mountain through forests and ranchlands to the intersection of Highway 3. There, we embark on our second climb, up Highway 3 to our first rest stop at Yellow Lake. We then turn at Twin Lakes (start point for those opting for the shorter ride) and enjoy a rolling descent along fresh asphalt past White Lake. Those on the shorter ride will visit Nighthawk Vineyards for a tasting. Then both groups will ride to Covert Farms, our lunch stop. We’ll finish our ride with a sweeping descent into Oliver and the site of a ghost town - Fairview - and a final wine tasting at your choice of wineries (Silver Sage/Hester Creek or Tinhorn Creek)

Our first stop will be for a stretch of the legs and a snack when our support vehicle meets us at Yellow Lake. (Long Ride only)

Nighthawk vineyards

Nighthawk Vineyards is a boutique family farm gate winery, overlooking the scenic Green Lake valley above Okanagan Falls.  It is truly a magical destination, with a distinctive terroir that contributes to some of the finest grape growing conditions.

(Shorter ride only)

Covert Farms (Our Lunch Stop)

Some laughed when George Covert bought this desert-like piece of land back in 1959 – but he, his son, and eventually grandson have grown Covert Farms into a cornerstone in organic farming. The family name is well known across numerous provinces with restaurateurs and grocers alike.

We’ll be having a true Farm-to-Table lunch at Covert Farms plus a chance to try wines from the Family Estate.

Note: you also have the choice of Hester Creek or Tinhorn Creek

Silver Sage founders Anna and Victor Manola emigrated to the Okanagan from Romania 32 years ago. Winemaking comes naturally to the Manola family, as they have four generations of winemaking experience behind them. Victor shared his father’s experience in grape growing, as back home he managed 25 hectares of vineyard. Anna’s father managed a 600-hectare vineyard and was its winemaker. From him, Anna learned the secrets of making a unique fruit wine that Silver Sage now shares with you.
